2010 First Release in Club Med

Since 2009, Club Med Bintan have also involved in Bintan Turtle Conservation. They have their own hatchery. They are lucky, because the nesting beach is just beside their resorts.
Three nests were saved and this is their first Green Turtle release.
65 Green Turtle hatchlings were released to the sea on 9 Sept 2010.

One of the tourist mentioned to her son, " Do you know, this is the one in Nemo? '
"Yes...Thanks Mommy, you take me to Bintan to see Nemo', he replied.
I just smiled hearing this conversation :)

Some tips that you can do to save the sea turtle:
1. Do not eat turtle eggs, or turtle meat.
2. Do not use jewelery made from turtle carapace
3. Do not throw away garbage to the sea.

Two Species in Bintan

There were two species of turtles found in Bintan :
Green and Hawksbill Turtle




On 14 July 2010, Nirwana Gardens released 67 Green Turtle hatchlings and 104 Hawksbill Turtle hatchlings together.

Can you see the difference of these two species?
The green turtle is the one you find in 'Nemo' film :)

Turtle Release in Segiling Village

Finally, Segiling villagers, who were a turtle eggs collector before, now help us in saving turtle eggs. They have their own hatchery and save the turtle nests they found while fishing.

In total 141 hawksbill turtle hatchlings were released to the sea on 15 and 26 August 2010 by them. Head of Forestry and Agriculture Dept, Bintan District and staffs were also attended one this turtle release.

PT. BRC started approaching Segiling Village since 2005. We also taught students in Junior and Senior High School in surrounding about marine ecology, specially, turtle conservation. In hope, these children spread their knowledge to their parents.
Since 2009, Segiling Villagers were participated actively in this program.

New Nesting Season

The turtle nesting season in Bintan is starting.
To date, 5 hawksbill turtle and 1 green turtle nest found in Pasir Panjang beach.
The first batch will release tomorrow at Angsana beach.
